Councilman Remembered For Support Of City, Airport

DELAWARE, Ohio — Family and friends on Thursday were remembering a Delaware City Council member they said died doing what he loved.

Jim Moore died on Wednesday when the plane he was piloting crashed in a field off of U.S. Route 42, about a mile from the Delaware Municipal Airport, 10TV's Tanisha Mallett reported.

Moore, 66, was an aviation enthusiast and supporter of the airport and the role it played in the Delaware's development and industry.

He served on council since 1999 and also served on the city's airport commission.

"I think Jim had three passions; one was his family the other was the airport and city council," said Lee Yoakum, community affairs coordinator for the city of Delaware. "Jim's involvement in so many projects, so many different initiatives, and programs, sometimes in an official or an unofficial capacity, to not have that leaves a tremendous void."

Friends said you cannot talk about Moore without talking about his passion for aviation and his hopes for the city and its airport.

"It was rare to go one or two council meetings without him bringing up an airport-related issue," said council member Andrew Brush. "I think that the airport that Delaware has today, a very good, well funded, well maintained, general aviation airport, is perhaps Jim's strongest legacy."

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said it appears Moore was attempting to land at the airport when his plane stalled and spiraled into a soybean field.

The patrol said there is no new information on what happened to Moore's plane.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the crash.
