Lohan gets 250 letters a day, jail officials say
Los Angeles Times
LOS ANGELES - Inmate No. 2409752 may be alone in her jail cell, but her fans are sending her plenty of letters to read.
Lindsay Lohan, serving a jail term for violating her probation, is getting about 250 letters a day, officials say.
"Most inmates don't get as much mail as Ms. Lohan is getting," said Steve Whitmore, a Los Angeles County sheriff's spokesman.
Like any other inmate, the actress is allowed to keep 10 pieces of mail at any given time and must return the letters to get new ones, Whitmore said. The mail, he said, is delivered with each shift in the module after it is checked for contraband.
"It is the same for everyone," he said.
Upon her release, Lohan will receive all of her mail. In recent days, parcel carriers have delivered books for her from Amazon.com. Whitmore said an inmate can receive publications only from magazine and book distributors.
"They are allowed to have three magazines or books at any one time," he said.
Whether she will get through all of that mail remains to be seen, as sheriff's officials say she is expected to be released next week after serving about 13 days of her 90-day jail sentence.
Because of time reduced for good behavior and jail overcrowding, female nonviolent inmates typically serve a small part of any given sentence.
